But how will Giles and Buffy's relationship pull through with the issues of Giles' miraculous  survival between them?

Author's Note: Holy shit, it has been forever since I updated this! And I feel so ashamed because I had one little chapter left on this fic and I put it off for a year. But, that's in the past and this is the present. And the present includes another completed fic (and another one in the works). So...enjoy and hopefully someone of you are still interested in this (not quite up to par) fic.

A small laugh escaped from Giles as he watched the puppy run around the living room. He shook his head as Indiana let out a small growl before pouncing on the chew toy he had tripped over.  It had been a few months since his attack and his recovery process was still being undergone. He was finding psychical therapy to be more of a pain than anything; he understood the repercussions if his body didn’t heal properly from the damage he had sustained, but he didn’t see why he needed to be treated as if he recovering from a spine injury. After all, the worse of all his damage had been to his arm and leg.
But Giles had quickly learned to not argue with the instructions given by his doctor. Being on the receiving end of lecture about close calls from his sister and his Slayer wasn’t something he wanted to experience on a weekly basis. Apart from the psychical therapy, his recovery had been going well. He had actually been surprised when Buffy continued to come by the hospital day after day, and then she had continued coming by his flat once a week to check up on him. He didn’t mind since she always kept her visits brief and kept her visits about helping him if he needed it.

Of course things had been strained between them during the first two months of his recovery but, sure enough, they slowly began working through the issues that had been hanging over their heads. And now, five months since the group of rouge Slayers had attacked him, Giles felt as if he was ready to try another relationship with Buffy. He smiled softly when he felt a nudge at his good leg.
“You’re big enough to jump on the couch, Indiana.” He told the puppy, chuckling as the husky cocked his head to the side.  The Watcher rolled his eyes and patted the cushion next to him. “Get up here, you goofball.”
Even though he had told Indiana to jump on the couch, Giles somehow wasn’t prepared for the dog to obey him and launch into merciless attack of licking the Watcher’s face. This continued for a moment before the sound of someone laughing caused both Giles and Indiana to look towards the opening to the living room, Buffy standing there with a few grocery bags.
“I thought he wasn’t allowed on furniture.” She teased as she made her way to Giles’ kitchen, unloading the items she had bought.
“Well, he isn’t. But…he just looked too pathetic on the floor.” Giles explained as he scratched behind the dog’s ear.
He smiled when he saw the eye roll from his Slayer. He reached for his crutches and pushed himself off the couch before making his way towards her. Giles took a deep breath and watched as Buffy finished putting away the groceries.
“Do you have any plans tonight?” he asked once she was finished with her task.
Buffy folded up his reusable shopping bags and placed them in the cabinet under his sink. He shifted slightly and adjusted his grip on the crutches when she didn’t answer his question right away. Giles was considering bringing something else to try and save himself from the embarrassment of having his question ignored when she turned and faced him.
“I do have plans.” Was all she said.
“Oh. Right,” he said as he tried to keep the disappointment at bay. “I suppose you would have plans.”
He looked down at the floor and shook his head slightly.
“Yeah, but I have this slight dilemma. I want dinner to be great because the first date should be the best first date either of us have been on, but I don’t know if I should cook or just order out.” Buffy said, sighing softly as she leaned against the counter.
“Buffy, no offense, but you can’t exactly cook.”
He gave her a teasing smile and rolled his eyes when she stuck her tongue out at him. Buffy noticed him adjust his grip again and pushed herself off the counter, leading him back to the couch. They sat on the couch and the Slayer turned to face her Watcher, both of them grinning as Indiana jumped up and lay on the cushion between them.
“I know I can’t cook, but…I would be making his favorite meal. And I’ve been practicing it for the last month.” Giles looked at her with a raised eyebrow, causing her to shook her head. “Is it hard to believe that I want this dinner to be perfect?”
“No, I suppose not.” He said with a small smile. “I just didn’t know you had met someone, nor that this gentleman meant that much to you if you’re practicing his favorite meal.”
Giles swallowed as he saw her nod, a dreamy smile on her face. He began picking at invisible dirt on his sweatpants to keep himself busy, not wanting to dwell on how he had missed his chance with her.
“If you practice, I’d say you should make the meal.” He said once he realized he had never given her an answer. “It’ll show him that you really want something out of the relationship that’s more than just a way to ease loneliness.”
He reached out and stroked Indiana’s fur when Buffy thanked him before getting up. He looked up and narrowed his eyes. “You’re leaving already?”
“No, I’m just going to start on dinner.” Buffy gave him a reassuring smile as she walked back to the kitchen.
“Buffy, I can make dinner for myself. Just because I’m on crutches doesn’t mean I’m completely helpless.” He sighed in frustration. “You should worry about getting ready for your date.”
“But you told me that I should make dinner.”
“I beg your pardon?”
She gave him a smile as she began getting everything she needed to make dinner. “You said I should make dinner for tonight.”
Giles continued to stare at her, still not understanding what she was telling him. His confusion must have been obvious because Buffy gave a small giggle.
“My plans for tonight involved you and me having dinner, Giles.”
“You…you were talking about me?” he asked, dumbfounded.
“Who else would I be talking about? We’ve been getting along these last few months and there’s been some flirtage on both sides and…” she cut herself off as a thought hit her. “Oh my God, did I misread everything? Were you just being friendly and not flirty?”
He continued to watch her as she continued her ramble. He smiled and just listened to her, his smile growing when she stopped herself and looked at him.
“Why are you smiling like that?”
“Because you’re extremely adorable when you ramble, Buffy.” He answered as he motioned her back to the couch.
He sat up straighter as she walked back, sitting down and looking at him.
“You didn’t misread anything,” he assured her, reaching over their sleeping dog to take her hand in his. “My feelings for you never left. If anything, they grew. I just…I needed time to cope with our past.”
“And…you’ve coped?” she asked hopefully.
“I have.” Giles grinned at Buffy’s smile threatened to blind him. “I was actually hoping that you would have dinner with me tonight, and talk about a possibility to give us another chance. A real chance at a relationship.”
“Lucky for you, that’s exactly what I had planned.”
They shared a smile before Buffy leaned over and kissed him softly.

I know I left everyone dangling for a long time. But, the important thing is that I finished and it was happy.

And that means I have no WIPs or incomplete fics, and can start working on my super secret project.

But that is not the point of this. The point is....

Thank you for sticking with it and reading and enjoying it and taking time to review! Just...yay you!
